    What to expect

What to Expect During and Immediately After Your Treatment

-Local numbing medication may be used to maximize your comfort during the procedure. Most patients typically report a mild discomfort associated with needle injections.

-Rarely patients may experience a mild to moderate amount of stinging or aching sensation after injection.

-To ensure an even correction the physician will massage the area treated, which may cause a temporary, minimal to moderate amount of redness to your skin.

-Bruising at the site of injection is a commonly reported side effect. To minimize bruising, inform Dr. Russo at the time you schedule your injectable procedure if you use blood thinners such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or herbal preparations. This will normally last less than seven days and can be camouflaged with make-up.

-Temporary, minimal to moderate swelling can be expected, which should dissipate following injection. Some patient report dramatic reduction in swelling hours after their treatment.

-It is normal to experience some tenderness at the treatment site for a few days.

    After Your Treatment

-Apply an ice pack or cold compress to the injection area after treatment to help reduce swelling. If swelling or redness persists for more than three days, please contact Dr. Russo 217-398-4856.

-Don’t lay on or put pressure on the treated areas. Don’t massage treated areas unless instructed to do so. Sleep with extra pillow/elevated head 15-20 degrees the first night.

-Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

-Avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to your procedure.

-Radiesse is a subdermal filler that is injected into the skin to soften the appearance of creases or folds, support areas of volume loss or contour specific facial areas. With Radiesse injections it is normal to feel“firmness” in the injection area(s) for the first days to weeks after treatment. Over time, the area will soften, leaving you a soft natural looking result.

-Makeup may be applied shortly after treatment. Apply makeup gently, avoiding strenuous rubbing of the injection area.

-The injection area may also be gently washed a few hours after treatment, avoiding aggressive scrubbing or rubbing.

-Sunbathing or excessive UV exposure and cold outdoor activities should be avoided until the redness or swelling has disappeared.

-If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that injections around the mouth could irritate another occurrence. Speak to Dr. Russo about medications that may minimize a recurrence.

-Immediately report any worsening or persistent symptoms or side effects to Dr. Russo at (217) 398-4856
