Mini Facelift

Written by Dr. Russo

A facelift is a cosmetic surgery that can be performed to tighten and lift the skin. A mini facelift is an excellent option for those who want to combat minor to moderate sagging in the lower third of the face.

Mini Facelift vs Traditional Facelift

While a traditional facelift can achieve an overall facial tightening (upper face, mid-region, and jowls), a mini facelift has been designed to target the lower portion of the face. In terms of surgical technique, the fundamental difference between a mini facelift and a traditional facelift rests in the size and placement of the incisions:

  • A mini facelift involves short incisions and fewer sutures are needed making the procedure and recovery process much shorter and easier than a traditional facelift.
  • A traditional facelift involves long incisions that span from the ear to the hairline. These incisions require a longer period of healing. It is recommended for patients with greater signs of aging.
  • A lower facelift involves short incisions along the jawline. These incisions can be hidden behind the ear and require a shorter period of healing that a traditional facelift.

The procedure time varies for a mini facelift and traditional facelift depending on the surgeon, but typically procedure time for a mini facelift is shorter.

How is a Mini Facelift Performed?

During a mini facelift, incisions are made and the skin is lifted to expose the underlying tissues. The muscles tissue is gently repositioned to lift and tighten. The skin is re-draped and trimmed. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures. A mini facelift can be complemented by other rejuvenating procedures to create a harmonious balance. Patients may experience some subtle swelling and bruising for the first few days. All of which is normal. Patients can return to work 2 weeks after surgery.
