Fractora is a non-invasive fractional skin resurfacing technique that uses radio-frequency energy to initiate the skin’s natural healing processes and is one of the most effective methods for treating fine lines, wrinkles, or pigmentation problems. At the Rejuvenis Center in Champaign-Urbana, Dr. Russo and his team recommend Fractora treatments to patients who prefer to avoid surgeries or more aggressive laser treatments.
How Does Fractora Work?
Unlike other fractional technologies, which use lasers to “drill” microscopic columns into the skin, Fractora relies on multiple needles – 1mm in length – that pierce the skin, and discharge radio-frequency waves into the sub-dermal layer. This electromagnetic energy sears the immediately surrounding tissue, causing micro-damage and kick-starting the body’s natural healing process via collagen growth.
Due to these columns being surrounded by untreated tissue, the recovery time is reduced compared to traditional skin resurfacing techniques, as is the risk for infection or side effects. The tradeoff is that, because fractional technology targets minimal tissue at one time, at least 3-4 treatments are usually necessary.
What does Fractora Treat?
As a result of this technology’s advanced, versatile and non-invasive nature, we use Fractora at the Rejuvenis Center to treat a number of conditions, including:
- wrinkles and fine lines
- skin texture problems
- acne scars
- surgical scars
- melasma
- discoloration and hyper-pigmentation
- actinic keratosis
- vascular malformations just below the skin
In addition, Fractora is safe for all skin types/tones, and can be applied to the following areas of the body:
- face
- forehead
- eyelids and under the eyes
- smile lines
- cheeks
- around the mouth
- jawline
- neck
- arms
- abdomen
- thighs
What to Expect at Your Appointment
In preparation for the procedure, our team will apply a topical ointment to the treatment area. To add additional comfort, we then use an injectable local anesthetic. The Fractora hand-held device will be applied across your skin in a controlled manner. Treatments typically last about 30-60 minutes but can vary, depending on what condition you are being treated for.
Results and Recovery
While some patients report some discomfort during and post-treatment, downtime is minimal due to Fractora’s non-invasive nature. Side effects may include some slight redness, swelling, tenderness, small bumps, needle marks or bruising, but these typically clear up within a week.
Results can usually be seen immediately, and the vast majority of our patients at the Rejuvenis Center report newly rejuvenated and tighter skin over the next few months, as new collagen continues to be produced.
In addition, we advise protecting your skin from direct sunlight and using sunscreen year round.
